The Surf Coast town of Torquay is located South West of Melbourne at the gateway to the Great Ocean Road. The town has been a popular summer holiday destination since the early 1900s. Historical fun fact, Torquay was named in 1892 after the popular holiday resort town in Devonshire, England.
The Torquay ‘Front Beach’ is easily recognisable with its wide grassy foreshore and Norfolk Pines facing east toward Zeally Bay. The coastal destination is known for being the birth place of international surfing brands Quiksilver and Rip Curl. Just down the road is the Bells Beach Surfing Recreation Reserve.
Torquay is not a sleepy seaside town. Many visitors have made the sea change and now call Torquay home. In response to the raid population growth, the centre of town has expanded to offer more destination shops, cafes, restaurants, boutique breweries and coffee roasters. For families, there are parks and playgrounds plus a choice of day care centres, kindergartens, Primary Schools and the Surf Coast Secondary College. Further schools are a short bus ride away in the nearby town of Geelong (distance 22kms).
Torquay residents are passionate about sport and recreation and health and well-being. The arts community is thriving with galleries, makers and artists calling Torquay and the greater Surf Coast home.
